I grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and studied economics and Japanese at the University of Michigan (yes, I still watch every Wolverines game from five time zones away). My wife Linh and I live in Honolulu with our dog Max. When I'm not working, I'm usually surfing, hiking, or playing tennis.
Can we actually retire?
Will the money last 30 years?
What do we do about healthcare before Medicare?
How do we keep taxes from eating our savings?
Those are the questions people bring to me. Answering them is my whole job.
I'm Daniel Masuda Lehrman, a fee-only CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® in Honolulu.
I work with retirees and pre-retirees in Hawaii, most with $1 million or more saved, who want a clear answer on whether their retirement works before they hand in their notice.
I don't sell products or earn commissions. You pay a flat, published fee, and my only job is the advice.
Before starting this firm, I spent ten years at Vanguard, Fidelity, and Schwab, where I advised nearly a thousand households.
I learned a lot there. I watched clients get reassigned to a new advisor every year or two, wait on hold with an 800 number, and squeeze into whatever meeting slot the firm offered.
I started my firm to provide a different experience. My clients have my cell number. We meet when it works for you, including evenings and weekends.
Retiring well takes more than a portfolio. I help you coordinate every piece of your financial life into a single plan — so nothing falls through the cracks in the five years before retirement or the thirty years after.
